Bipartisan Energy Bill Compromise In The Works
Two bipartisan groups in the House and Senate hope they can reach a compromise on an energy policy when lawmakers return in September, Farm Progress reports. Both parties have proposals that include expanding offshore drilling. Both proposals include Democratic-supported provisions for energy conservation and funding renewable power as well.
Led by Kent Conrad (D-ND), and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) the groups say they hope their legislation will serve as a launching point for the energy discussion in September. Senate leaders have indicated that major new energy legislation should come through their offices, but they are open to considering a deal.
