Google To Release New OS
Google, Mountain View, CA, is working on a new operating system (OS) based on the company’s new web browser, “Chrome.” The new OS is expected to begin running on computers in the second half of 2010.
Google is designing the operating system primarily for “netbooks,” the smaller, less expensive, computers that are increasingly popular among budget-conscious consumers and those looking to travel with a smaller, lighter computer. The OS is Google’s attempt to dethrone rival Microsoft.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has been trying to thwart Google by investing billions of dollars to improve its own internet search engine, “Bing”, and advertising systems. Microsoft is also unveiling it’s newest OS, Windows 7, October 22, 2009. Microsoft boasts that, “It includes tons of little refinements — and a few big ones. The result? Everyday computing is faster, simpler, easier.”
