Fun Is Out!
If you work for a government agency, don’t plan on visiting Las Vegas or Orlando in the near future at government expense. And don’t plan on having fun when you get to your meetings. According to The Wall Street Journal, many government agencies have cautioned employees to not incorporate too much fun when planning meeting destinations.
The USDA, as one example, has recently issued guidelines saying that meetings should be held in venues that are a travel hub, are low cost and not resorts. Recommended cities include Chicago, Denver, Portland, St. Louis, Washington, D.C.,
Milwaukee and Phoenix.
Seems that the government has suddenly become rather PR conscious. Needless to say, the U.S. Travel Association is probably not particularly fond of these new guidelines. And, from our experience, is Portland really a low-cost air destination for much of the country? Could we possibly recommend Potosi?
