New ASABE Standard: Performing On-Farm Energy Audits

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has approved a standard for performing on-farm energy audits in North America. The standard supports energy audits of typical North American farming operations.

It establishes procedures for performing on-farm audits to determine and document current energy usage, and to provide an estimation of energy savings from alternatives in the cultivation, protection, harvesting, processing and storage of agricultural commodities and in the feeding, housing and processing of farm animals and animal products.

The standard is provided to guide qualified auditors in the reporting of data and the preparation of specific recommendations for energy reduction and conservation with estimates of energy savings.

ASABE members and those with site-license privileges to the ASABE online Technical Library, at ASABE.org, can obtain an electronic copy of the standard in about two weeks. For info on this or any other ASABE standard, contact Scott
