Association Joins Better Borders Coalition
A few weeks ago, a member contacted the Association regarding growing difficulties that a number of U.S. manufacturers, exporters and their Canadian business partners are having crossing the shared U.S./Canadian border.
These difficulties range from employees being denied entry because of improper documentation, to inconsistencies in how rules are interpreted at various border crossings. Problems often result in the inability to attend meetings, service equipment and transport goods and staff to trade shows. Moreover, individuals who have once been denied entry are concerned about their future ability to enter the country.
The member requested that our Association join a coalition of over 20 cross-border manufacturing companies formed as the Businesses for Better Borders (B3) Coalition. The B3 steering committee is comprised of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the U.S. National Association of Manufacturers, the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association and the American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC).
After consulting with our Association President and our Executive Committee, a letter of support was sent to former Gov. Matt Blunt, who is now president of AAPC and sits on the above mentioned B3 steering committee. This correspondence not only shows this Association’s support, but will also give us better access to the proposals being worked on between the U.S. and Canadian governments. ◆
