New GOP House Ag Committee Members

House Ag Committee Chairman Frank Lucas (R-OK) has announced the seven House Republicans who will be joining the Agriculture Committee in January. The new members are: Rep. Dan Benishek (MI), Chris Collins (NY), Rodney Davis (IL), Jeff Denham (CA), Richard Hudson (NC), Doug LaMalfa (CA) and Ted Yoho (FL).

While some are hopeful a five-year farm bill can be absorbed into an overall budget-cutting bill that could avert the looming “fiscal cliff” of tax increases and spending cuts, its clear many issues still divide ag supporters in congress. The Chicago Tribune quotes House Ag Chairman Lucas as saying, “I would rather have nothing than a farm bill that does not give farmers the option of price supports… You need to give our producers a choice.”
