ASABE to Revise Ag Field Equipment Standard

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has initiated a project to revise of one of its often-used standards, ANSI/ASAE S318.17, Safety for Agricultural Field Equipment.

The revision will update the reference section and standard format. In addition, anticipating eventual alignment with related documents, the revision will incorporate guarding definitions, design requirements and fabrication guidance currently included in ANSI/ASAE S493.1, Guarding for Agricultural Equipment.

It is intended to provide a reasonable degree of personal safety for operators and other persons during the normal operation and servicing of agricultural field equipment.

Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial, or other governmental requirements. For information on this or any other ASABE standard, contact Scott Cedarquist at 269-932-7031, cedarq@asabe.org.
