Texas Cotton Producers Not Impressed with New House Leadership

With the new U.S. Congress convening and two Texans heading the U.S. House Ag Committee, you might expect Texas cotton producers to be optimistic about ag-related legislation during the coming year. But not so, according to the Seminole Sentinel.

In December, Rep.Mike Conaway, (R-TX) was named Chairman of the House Ag Committee, and Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) was named Vice Chairman.

Feeling they have been let down by the 2014 Farm Bill, Texas cotton producers are less than enthused about the House Ag Committee’s new leadership. When interviewed by the newspaper, cotton growers said they believe their congressional leaders offer more style than substance, and they expect “more of the same” from the 114th Congress.

“We (cotton farmers) were thrown under the bus more than any other commodity,” said one Texan farmer, who also is a Republican. “I would hope they would try to be some help to some degree. I don’t see how they can hurt much more.” S
