USDA to Limit Payments to Farm Managers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced last week a proposal to limit payments to individuals who may be designated as farm managers but are not actively engaged in farm management. The 2014 Farm Bill authorized the USDA to address this loophole, which most commonly occurs in joint ventures and general partnerships.
“We want to make sure that farm program payments are going to the farmers and farm families that they are intended to help,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
Family farms will not be impacted, and rules related to contributions to land, capital, equipment, or labor will not be affected. To learn more, go to usda.gov/farmbill. S
