Deere & Co. Announces Layoffs

Deere & Co. announced Aug. 31 that its plants in Davenport and East Moline will reduce their workforces.

About 180 workers are affected, including 150 at Harvester Works in East Moline and 30 at Davenport Works.

“We adjust the size of our manufacturing workforce to meet the demand for products,” Deere spokesman Ken Golden said in an article in the Quad-City Times.

Workers affected at the East Moline plant make combines and headers. Workers at the Davenport plant make construction and some forestry equipment.

The East Moline layoffs are effective Sept. 18; the Davenport layoffs begin Oct. 2. Golden said the layoffs are
indefinite.

In July, Deere also announced it would lay off 160 employees at Deere Seeding in Moline. To date, approximately 1,500 manufacturing employees are on layoff at the firm, Golden told the Times. S
