Association to Lawmakers: Move on Transportation Bill
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives received a letter last week from this Association and 68 other organizations urging them to pass a six-year reauthoriziation of the federal surface transportation program.
“America’s transportation infrastructure network is the foundation on which the nation’s economy functions,” the letter said. “American manufacturers, industries and businesses depend on this complex system to move people, products, and services every day of the year.”
The U.S. Senate passed a multi-year surface transportation bill in July. The letter calls on representatives to sustain this progress and move the reauthorization forward by the end of 2015.
The latest short-term program extension expires Oct. 29.
The letter argued that the temporary funding extensions of the past eights have not provided for economic growth and increased competitiveness.
Among the 69 organizations endorsing the letter were the National Association of Manufacturers, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. S
