Kinze Hosts Job Fair for Furloughed Workers

A recent move by Kinze Manufacturing, Inc., won the approval of other employers in Eastern Iowa. The company hosted a job fair to assist employees who were laid off during a reduction in force.

The Gazette in Cedar Rapids reported that while job fairs are ordinary, they become extraordinary when an employer hosts one for furloughed employees.

Kinze laid off 215 employees in June in response to the slowdown in agricultural equipment sales. In subsequent weeks, it held workshops for those affected that included career support, resume-writing, and a job fair at Kinze Innovation Center.

Jeff Vogts, Director of Human Resources, told The Gazette that local employers called to inquire about furloughed staff, and the idea for the fair evolved from there.

Forty-six employers met with 60 former Kinze employees at the fair.

A representative from Whirlpool-Amana Division said the company was among many that filled vacancies during the fair.
