EPA Pulls Approval on Enlist Duo Herbicide
The EPA surprised the ag industry last week when it withdrew approval of Dow AgroScience’s Enlist Duo herbicide.
The agency initially approved the herbicide in 2014, and it was in use in 15 states. In its decision announced November 25, the EPA cited concerns about the herbicide’s potential impact on endangered plants and animals. The agency said new information has surfaced.
Dow AgroSciences President and CEO Tim Hassinger issued a statement in response to the news.
“We believe the questions that have been raised about any potential synergy between 2,4-D choline and glyphosate can be promptly resolved in the next few months, in time for the 2016 crop use season,” he said.
“It’s possible that we could see some changes to use conditions on the existing Enlist Duo label. However, based on the ongoing dialogue with EPA, we do not expect these issues to result in the long-term cancellation of the Enlist Duo product registration. We continue to prepare for commercial sales of Enlist Duo for the 2016 growing season with enthusiastic grower adoption.” S
