Association Spotlight: Towed Implement Council

Association members have asked to learn more about the work of committees and councils. This submission from Duo Lift Manufacturing Co. explains the work of the Towed Implement Product Council. Jim Hellbusch is president of Duo Lift and chairman of the product council.

The Towed Implement Product Council formed in 1993. Its purpose is to unite Association manufacturers of towed implements, as well as related supplier members, to encourage the safe design and manufacture of towed implements for use in the field and on public roadways.

Members are interested in topics such as lighting (which will soon become federal law rather than a voluntary standard) brakes, safety chains, length-width-height, weight, and coupling devices.

Council members review standards, and its members submit recommendations to standards agencies such as the ASABE.

In response to the Wisconsin legislative effort related to farm equipment on public roadways, the council recently orchestrated a joint industry-wide meeting at the National Farm Machinery Show to discuss the impact of such legislation and what manufacturers can do to remain aware and engaged in this legislative movement.

Interested Association members are encouraged to attend the council’s annual meeting at the Fall Marketing & Distribution Convention in San Diego. S
