USDA Releases Planting Numbers
Chilly, wet weather slowed the pace of planting last week.
Numbers from the USDA tell us that as of Sunday, 75 percent of corn had been planted nationwide, which is up 11 points from a week ago. This time last year, about 82 percent of corn was in the ground. The yearly average, however, is 70 percent.
Corn emergence was 43 percent, USDA said, which is down from last year’s 48 percent.
Indiana and Ohio continued to lag the western Midwest, with Indiana corn at 45 percent planted and Ohio at 34 percent.
Soybeans were 36 percent planted nationwide, with Iowa at 43 percent, Illinois at 29 percent, Indiana at 15 percent and Ohio at 10 percent.
