Kubota Makes Gains in U.K.
Tractor sales in the United Kingdom continue to decline for most manufacturers, with very few bucking the trend and actually increasing sales and market share.
According to the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA), registrations of agricultural tractors over 50 horsepower reached 10,602 units in 2016, a decrease of 2.2 percent from 2015.
The most recent data available that breaks down sales by brand is from 2015. Deere held onto the top spot in 2015 just above New Holland and Massey Ferguson.
The most dramatic increases in sales came from Kubota, which sold 174 more tractors compared to 2014, and JCB, which sold 30 more tractors. For both manufacturers, this represents a jump of about 25 percent more tractors sold in 2015 compared to 2014.
Rob Edwards, Kubota U.K. agriculture business development manager, said the change for Kubota is a result of a 2014 decision to create a specific agricultural division. He said the company plans to reach a market share of 10 percent over the next five years.
