Wait Continues for USDA Undersecretaries

Almost 200 days into his presidency, President Donald Trump has yet to formally nominate any undersecretaries to serve at the USDA. Last month, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue responded to a question about the 15 Senate-confirmed positions by saying there “doesn’t seem to be a lot of urgency” to get those names cleared and vetted through the Office of Government Ethics and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Among possible appointees are Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, Sam Clovis, a Midwesterner who is now USDA liaison to the White House, and Indiana Agriculture Director Ted McKinney. Their confirmations may be delayed until after the August recess.
