Talks Over Beef Imports Between S Korea & U.S. Not Working
U.S. and South Korean trade officials are continuing talks about imports of U.S. beef to the country. The focus is on the importation of beef from cattle less than 30 months of age, Ag Professional reports.
The talks come despite intense pressure from large consumer protests in South Korea against all U.S. beef. South Korean President Lee Myung-bak has vowed not to allow the import of beef from cattle older than 30 months.
However, the Bush administration said that it will not renegotiate an accord that was supposed to have settled a major irritant in ties between the allies. U.S. packers have also shown the willingness to label for age the beef shipments sent to the country. The South Koreans arent budging on issue.
