Employers Need New I-9 Form Soon

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has released a new version of the Employment Eligibility Verification form known as Form I-9. All U.S. employers must begin using the new Form I-9 after January 22.

The new version of the Form I-9 includes clarifications and changes designed to make the form easier to fill out electronically.

Beyond a series of functional changes, the new form will include a question about whether a preparer or translator was used and a supplemental page for the preparer/translator.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducts over 3,000 I-9 employer audits annually. Immigration enforcement is anticipated to increase during the Trump administration.
