Every Second Delivers Eight New Cyberthreats
Security firm McAfee has shared data from its March 2018 threat report.
The report, which covered the final quarter of 2017, highlights key trends in cybercriminal tactics and strategies, as well as targeted industries (healthcare), and geographic locations.
Among data:
There were 478 new cyber threats every minute in the last quarter of 2017, or about eight new threats every second.
A cybercriminal focus on hijacking or “cryptojacking” Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency is on the rise. In other words, it’s not just a popular investment anymore, cyber criminals are “following the money.”
Incidents of ransonware increased by 59 percent in 2017 and 35 percent in the final quarter of the year.
Ransomware attacks became more creative and focused on operational and process disruption rather than financial gain.
The healthcare industry was hard hit in 2017. Security incidents increased by 200 percent compared to 2016.
