Farmers Deadline to Seek Aid Expires

The Trump administration has distributed nearly $7.1 billion of the $9.6 billion allocated for direct trade-relief payments to farmers, according to the USDA.

That means, when the deadline arrived Thursday for farmers to apply for assistance, $2.5 billion remained on the table. USDA isn’t planning any trade aid for 2019 production, though retaliatory tariffs are still in place from major trading partners like China, Mexico and Canada.
