FarmLink Launches Online Sharing for Farm Equipment

The Kansas City company that 15 years ago introduced MachineryLink—a farm equipment leasing and sharing program—recently expanded to also offer an online platform for equipment sharing.

The platform launched in July with limited participation. It is open to ag retailers, equipment dealers, and co-ops. In the fall, individuals will be able to also offer their equipment for sharing.

In late July, 16 ag retailers had signed up to participate.

FarmLink, which operates MachineryLink and the new MachineryLink Sharing, describes the platform as an opportunity for farmers to have access to both equipment and revenue.

A page on FarmLink's web site says this: "We all have machinery on our minds. New equipment prices continue their steady upward march, while used equipment slumps. Every year it becomes more and more difficult to justify owning that expensive piece of equipment that only leaves the shed twice a year. MachineryLink’s Equipment Sharing is here to help: we provide access to equipment when you need it, and revenue when it’s idle."

In media announcements, Jeff Dema, FarmLink’s President of Grower Services, said retailers and growers are rethinking their capital expenses.

“Through the introduction of an innovative ‘sharing economy’ model," Dema said, "FarmLink is driving more profitable use of critical equipment assets to improve cash flow and increase other investment opportunities on the farm, at the dealership and in rural communities across the country.”

Among equipment available for sharing are sprayers, floaters, tender trucks and tractors. Companies listed as partners on FarmLink's web site are Tri-State Ag & Environmental, Key Cooperative, Heartland Co-op, Farmers Feed & Grain Co., Inc., NuWay Cooperative, ViaField, RDO Equipment Co., Ag Partners, Maximum Ag Technologies, 2K Agri Services, and Type Stanton Fertilizer.
