In Memoriam: Russell Buster

Retired Bush Hog President Russell Buster Jr. died July 26.  He was 93.

Buster joined Bush Hog in the 1950s. He became president in the 1980s and retired in 1993.

James Bearden, a former board member of this Association and retiree of Bush Hog, described Buster as “critical in the formative years of Bush Hog,” and “instrumental” in growing its business.

Buster served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was as an outdoorsman, a civic leader, and someone who treated everyone the same.

During his tenure as president, Bush Hog eliminated assigned parking spaces. A newspaper article quoted him as saying, “If someone beats me to my space, that’s fine. The point is everyone is important and makes a difference.”
