MacDon Sells to Linamar Corporation
Association member MacDon and its group of companies will sell its business to Linamar Corporation.
The deal, which Linamar describes as “a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to move our agriculture business into a market leading position,” is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.
MacDon is a 67-year-old, family-owned company that designs and manufactures specialized harvesting equipment. It is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and sells its products in more than 40 countries.
Linamar Corporation, based in Guelph, Ontario, is Canada’s second largest automobile parts manufacturer. It serves a myriad of industrial markets in North America, Europe, and Asia.
“We believe the long-term growth fundamentals for the agriculture industry are very strong given the growing and developing global population,” said Linamar CEO Linda Hasenfratz. She went on to describe the acquisition of MacDon as “the centerpiece of our agriculture business, which includes our existing European corn header business, highly complementary to MacDon products. We get diversification, innovation, growth and a solid deal, we couldn’t be happier.”
MacDon characterized the transaction as “friendly” in a note to its dealers and said the companies share important values, such as a focus on safety and a deep respect for the people who make up the companies.
Gary Giesbrecht and MacDon’s current management will continue to lead the company.
