Mooove Over, New York, Idaho Makes More Milk

Idaho has surpassed New York State as the nation’s third largest milk producer, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The state finishes behind dairy powerhouses California and Wisconsin.

Idaho’s total dairy revenue in 2014 was up 12.5% over 2013 because of investments from companies including Chobani and Glanbia Foods, according to The Shelby Report.

Bob Naerebout, executive director of the Idaho Dairymen’s Association, pointed out that this No. 3 ranking comes “even with fewer cows than New York, a testament to the greater efficiencies of our dairy farmers.” S
