Omni Gear Sponsors Formula E Race Team

Omni Gear, a Houston, TX-based manufacturer of power transmissions and gearboxes, announced it is sponsoring a Formula E race team, Team China. Formula E is an FIA-governed single-seat vehicle series, and the world’s first fully-electric racing series.

The inaugural season began Sept. 13, 2014, in Beijing. The series then moves on to Malaysia, Uruguay, Argentina, Miami & Long Beach, then on to Berlin and Monaco, concluding in London in June 2015. Ten teams consisting of two drivers each compete for the championship, and each race is held on city-street race circuits.

All teams race a series-developed car. Teams and drivers are learning how to maximize the performance of a 28Kwh battery and a 200Kw drive motor, translating that into pole position, fastest laps and race results.

While Omni Gear has traditionally produced off-highway gearboxes using ICE hydraulic systems, the company now also creates hybrid and pure electric powertrains.
