See State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Training Facility
We’ll conclude the Myrtle Beach meeting with a look at how a South Carolina technical college is solving the labor shortage.
Attendees will tour the Advanced Manufacturing Center at Horry Georgetown Technical College. The center opened in late 2017 and has been celebrated as helping to close the gap in the search for skilled labor.
The 25,000-square-foot center simulates an industrial setting in a controlled training environment with a focus on welding and machine tool technology, and computerized numerical control. At least one member company has hired its graduates and expects to hire more.
“What this school can now do through machining, and welding, and assembly, and mechatronics, I mean, you cannot ask for more,” said Bob Meltzer with Peddinghaus Corp. “This is one of the best places I’ve seen in my 40 years in manufacturing.”
Meltzer is COO for the company’s satellite manufacturing plant in Andrews, S.C., and he spoke at an opening celebration for the center.
The center was possible through a partnership of business and industry, technical education, and private individuals who contributed resources.
A representative from the center will speak at the Summit.
