Study Begins on Load Rates for Implements of Husbandry
The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine is preparing to propose new load-rating provisions for implements of husbandry to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
Information from the national academies says implements of husbandry (IoH) have changed in size, geometry, and weight, and “it is clear that the growth of IoH has far outpaced legal vehicles.”
The academies will research and ultimately “provide guidance to help bridge owners and engineers load rate bridges for IoH in order to ensure public safety and preserve bridges.”
The research project is scheduled for completion in October 2019.
The AASHTO sets standards, specifications, test protocols, and guidelines used in highway design and construction in the United States.
