Update from ASABE

Our Association will expand our coverage of industry safety standards in September. The goal is for members to have access not only to the status of standards in development and revision but also to a quick-reference tool that links to more technical information.

Members will receive an email notice in coming weeks regarding this important member benefit. Until then, below is a quick glimpse of what’s happening with the development and revision of standards in our industry.

X684.4 Ag Equipment Braking for Towed Implements. Technical changes are being made for implements behind Special Self-Propelled Equipment (Combines & sprayers). More information to follow.

X279.18 Standard comment resolutions under review for lighting and marking standard.

X583.2 Safety for Agricultural Front Loaders; add a definition for quick attach loader and make the usage of “attachment” and “allowable attachment” consistent. Please send any comments to John Fisher by Aug. 15 at jfisher@ alamo-group.com.

X619.1, Safety for Tractor-Mounted, Boom-Type Post Hole Diggers. Approved by developing committee.

X620.1, Safety for Application Equipment Committee is working on a draft for terminology and language, multitank systems, plumbing for running gear, front mechanically secure points and nurse tank hose attachment and length, nurse tank hitching systems.

ISO meeting in May in Rome, Ga. 4254-13, Larger Rotary Mower Safety standard revision project was approved to start work. 5718 part 2 Large Rotary Mower Blade Ductility standard project was approved to start work. Jeff Welsh of Land Pride will be the new convener to replace John Fisher in
the ISO WG14 meetings.
