USDA: Harvest Lags Behind Historic Average

U.S. corn and soybean producers made minimal harvest progress last week as activity was delayed by another round of winter-like conditions in some areas, along with high winds and rain.

The USDA says 89 percent of the corn crop is harvested, compared to 84 percent a week ago and the five-year average of 98 percent.

The administration also reported that 96 percent of soybeans are harvested, compared to 94 percent last week and 99 percent on average. Eighty-three percent of cotton is harvested, compared to 78 percent the week before and 81 percent normally in early December.

The USDA’s next set of production estimates is expected on Dec. 10th.
