ADA Discrimination Claims Up

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has reported that nearly 21,500 discrimination claims under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) were filed in 2009, the highest in the ADA’s 20-year history.

The upsurge is likely due to amendments to the ADA broadening the definition of a disability to override recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions limiting ADA claims. ◆
