Deere Accused of Clean Air Act Violations Over Emissions Repair Restrictions

In a letter dated Oct. 2, 2024 to Deere & Co. Chairman John C. May, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) accused the company not upholding its end of the MOU with the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and instead providing “impaired tools and inadequate disclosures.” She claims “his refusal to provide meaningful right to repair likely indicates that John Deere may be violating the Clean Air Act by restricting repair of its products’ emissions systems.”

In the letter Warren claims Deere hasn’t granted customers the right to repair their own ag equipment, and as a result has cost U.S. $4.2 billion per year and leads them to miss key crop windows on which their livelihood depends. Sen. Warren’s full letter can be read here
