AGCO Eyeing North American Market To Stay Competitive
AGCO Corp., Duluth, GA, is said to be looking at opening a Georgia factory that could employ up to 2,000 workers, Biz Journals reports. The plant would coincide with the company’s desire to move more manufacturing to the U.S., as it aims to take North American market share from competitors Case IH and Deere.
AGCO ranks behind Deere and Case, in the more than $10 billion North American market. Last year, only 25% of the company’s revenue was generated in North America. Much of its manufacturing remains outside of the country, primarily in Germany and Brazil.
The company opened three U.S. tractor assembly centers last year in Baltimore, Houston, and Tacoma. AGCO management has said the company could develop any of the new light assembly plants into a North American factory.
The company didn’t exactly confirm that it was looking for a Georgia-based plant, and a spokeswoman said there are no definitive plans for a new factory.
