ASABE Adopts Standard, Revises Another

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers has adopted a new national standard related to aerial application nozzles and revised a standard for testing broadcast spreaders.

The new national standard is ANSI/ASABE S641, Droplet Size Classification of Aerial Application Nozzles. It aligns closely with ANSI/ASAE S572 in scope but redefines measurement set-ups, reference nozzles, and operational settings for testing spray nozzles used for high-airspeed aerial applications.

The revision is ASAE S341.5, Procedure for Measuring Distribution Uniformity and Calibrating Granular Broadcast Spreaders. It provides a test that allows prediction of distribution uniformity and comparison of distribution patterns.

ASABE members with standards access and those with site-license privileges can access the full-text via electronic download on the ASABE online Technical Library at elibrary.asabe.org. Others can obtain a copy for a fee directly from the library or by contacting ASABE at OrderStandard@asabe.org.

Association member companies who are not also members of ASABE are entitled to receive a no-cost flash drive or CD containing current safety standards. The resource is regularly $569. It contains 264 ASAE/ASABE standards, engineering practices, and data applicable to agricultural equipment and systems, irrigation and drainage, and more.
