ASABE Announces Revision To Ag-Equipment Safety Standard
The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has revised one of its most widely used standards, and created a new a new standard in the process. The revised document, ANSI/ASAE S318.17, Safety for Agricultural Field Equipment, excludes sections on power take-off (PTO) drive shaft and power input connection.
The exclusions now form the basis of a new ASABE standard, ANSI/ASAE S604, Safety for Power Take-off (PTO), Implement Input Driveline (IID), Implement Input Connection (IIC), and Auxiliary Power Take-off (aux. PTO) for Agricultural Field Equipment. The move advances efforts toward international harmonization of such standards and the eventual goal of adopting ISO 5673 Part 1, Agricultural tractors and machinery — Power take-off drive shafts and power-input connection — Part 1: General manufacturing and safety requirements.
A copy of the document can be ordered by contacting ASABE headquarters directly at: martin@asabe.org. ASABE members and those with site-license privileges to the ASABE online Technical Library, at
ASABE.org, can obtain an electronic copy of the standard in about three weeks.
