ASABE Revises Ag Facilities Lighting System Standard

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announced it revised its agricultural lighting system standard.

The new document, ASAE EP344.4, Lighting Systems for Agricultural Facilities, includes updates that reflect current practices and equipment. The document is intended to serve as a guide for the effective design of lighting installations on or within agricultural facilities.

The guidelines apply to optimizing lighting installations used for:

  • Optimized worker performance
  • Optimized physiological or biological responses of livestock, birds, fish, and plants to alter their production and reproductive capabilities.

ASABE members with standards access and those with site-license privileges can access the full-text via electronic download on the ASABE online Technical Library at elibrary.asabe.org/. Others can obtain a copy for a fee directly from the library or by contacting ASABE headquarters at martin@asabe.org.

Conformance to ASABE standards is voluntary, except where required by state, provincial, or other governmental requirements, and the documents are developed by consensus in accordance with procedures approved by the American National Standards Institute.
