Association Monitors State Legislation Affecting Members
New legislative sessions have begun, or soon will begin, for all states. As always, the Association will monitor legislation likely to affect our members.
On several states’ dockets are bills that could affect the agriculture industry. Missouri introduced a bill in the House and Senate to change the laws regarding weight limitations for vehicles hauling livestock or agriculture products on state highways. Washington state introduced legislation to make farmers who use manure as fertilizer subject to the same regulations as dairies that produce the manure.
At least 11 other states will vote on raising the minimum wage, while some states will consider legislation to repeal prevailing wage laws. A number of states also will vote on various measures that protect a farmer’s “Right to Farm.”
We will report on new developments as they unfold. Look for updates in future editions of Shortliner and follow our Twitter feed (@Shortliner). S
