CA Pastures Suffer From Severe Drought
California rangelands are by far the driest in the nation, according to a USDA report. Ninety-seven percent of the state’s pastures, which support the cattle and sheep industries, are in poor or very poor condition, meaning ranchers must provide significant amounts of supplemental feed for their herds.
The parched pastures represent the third federally recognized agricultural disaster of the year in some Sacramento Valley counties, following windstorms in early January and a severe freeze in April.
