Employer Mandate Delayed for Some Employers
The Obama administration announced this week that it will give medium-sized employers an extra year, until 2016, before they must offer health insurance to their full-time workers.
The Treasury Department will let employers with 50 to 99 employees off the hook in 2015. If you fit into this group, you will be required to report how many workers are covered but will have until 2016 before you must offer coverage to full-time workers or pay a penalty.
Under the newly written rules, businesses with 100 or more workers must offer insurance to 70% of their workforce in 2015 and then fully comply with the law in 2016.
The implementation of the employer mandate had already been delayed by a year, initially postponing the requirements until 2015 and past the November 2014 midterm congressional elections.
