Flinchbaugh On U.S. Agriculture Policy

Members expecting Dr. Barry Flinchbaugh to have mellowed since he last addressed our group on U.S. farm policy may want to stay out of the front row during his keynote address during our Indianapolis Fall Convention next month.

With everyone weighing in on the Farm Bill last week and the House passing a separate bill dealing with the runaway costs of the food stamp program, it seemed like a good time to touch base with our favorite professor regarding the week’s events. Here is his response.

“The President will not lead and the Congress has no idea how to lead. Washington is dysfunctional. Our politics have been captured by the wingnuts on either end of the spectrum that do not understand that democracy requires compromise, civil discourse and moderation. In the meantime the economy cries out for stability, and we cannot even agree that both nutrition and farm programs belong in the same bill.”

While Flinchbaugh will tackle the Washington scene bluntly we also look forward to his usual good humor. This Session will start promptly at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, with the exception of the front row, we expect a full room.
