Great Expectations For Corn Crop Fading

With major flooding in Iowa and surrounding areas, estimates of corn acres requiring replanting in the state range anywhere from 3% to 10%, Agriculture Online said. In other areas of the Corn Belt, even if acres aren’t flooded, the soil is simply too wet to allow fieldwork. Farmers say they are now changing their plans for what many expected to be a good crop season with high market prices.

Replanting is the only choice some farmers have if they’re to salvage the corn crop. The number of acres analysts expect will be replanted is already in the millions. Analysts said in a Dow Jones Newswires report that 4% to 5%, or at least four million acres would likely need to be replanted.
