Harvests Nearing Completion
USDA reports that all but two of the 18 largest corn-producing states have harvests at least 80% completed. The two states that lag behind are North Dakota, at 53% completed, and South Dakota, where the harvest is 73% completed.
On a rolling five-year average, the crop in North Dakota is 93% completed by this time of year, while the historic average for South Dakota is 98% completion by the first week of December, reports USAgNet. Those states are facing snow and sub-zero temperatures this month.
Overall, the corn harvest is 88% completed, matching the cotton harvest, which is 88% done. U.S. peanuts, sunflower and sorghum farmers each report their crop harvests 94% done, the USDA said.
