Haven Steel To Open New Powder Coat Facility
As part of a major plant expansion, Haven Steel Products will open a new powder coat facility in the first quarter of 2014 for all of its product lines. Powder coating will dramatically improve the appearance and durability of the company’s diversified steel products.
The new facility utilizes a polyester TGIC coating with a minimum thickness of 3 mils. This coating is highly scratch proof; provides superior, 5-year durability against UV fading; and prevents rust and corrosion. The coating will withstand 1,000 hours of salt spray, for instance.
The facility itself features advanced functionality. A monorail conveyor feeds product into a large envelope accommodating its products. A “lean recipe system” features automatic parts recognition that customizes the powder for exact applications. The facility utilizes eight automatic guns to minimize imperfections. Its powder coat booth is enclosed in an environmental room with a dedicated clean, dry air system.
“Our steel has never looked so good,” said Tom Oxley, the company’s general manager. “Our new ability to powder coat products will again enhance the end-user value of the component products we provide to our OEM customers. And that makes everyone happy.”
Established in 1968, Haven Steel Products originally fabricated and heat-treated steel spring components for the agricultural industry (tillage components), the construction industry (landscaping and mowing components), and the trailer industry (leaf springs). Today, the company has diversified its product range to include many other items.
