Healthy Families Act: What Does It Mean For Your Company?
Last month, the Healthy Families Act was introduced in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. This bill would require employers with 15 or more employees to offer a one-size-fits-all paid sick leave package, mandating seven days of paid sick leave to all full-time employees. This government-imposed mandate limits employers’ flexibility in designing a benefits package that meets the needs of their unique workforce within the constraints of their labor market, resulting in significant costs for employers.
It’s easy to understand why manufacturers oppose one-size-fits-all mandates on employers that increase the cost of doing business in the U.S., reduce benefit design flexibility, and limit or eliminate the customized benefit options currently available to employees.
This legislation does not assist manufacturers in providing generous benefits that they currently offer to their employees. Instead, the Healthy Families Act would almost certainly force employers to reduce wages or other benefits to pay a federal government leave mandate. It’s time to let your voice be heard. We encourage manufacturers to contact their member of Congress. For more info, email Vernon@FarmEquip.org or call (314) 878-2304.
