Jobs Reports Includes Many Temporary Workers

Tucked away in the June jobs report was a more ominous sign. Almost one-third of the 80,000 jobs that were created were at temporary employment firms.

The Bureau of Labor Statics reported that Business and Professional Services created almost 6-in-10 of the total jobs created. Over half of these, 25,000, were at temporary employment firms. This means that almost one-third of the jobs created were at temp agencies, a clear sign that employers remain hesitant about expanding their payrolls.

June also saw 85,000 workers leave the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.
