Monsantos Return On Investment
Ever wonder what Monsanto’s return on investment is when it comes to research dollars? Last year, the seed company saw a $6.1 billion gross profit from $1.5 billion it spent on seed-and-traits R&D, Robb Fraley, Chief Technology Officer, recently told investors in New York, at Citi’s 5th Annual Basic Materials Symposium. “Reflecting focused R&D investment on opportunities that create value, there is symmetry between R&D spending and gross-profit generation,” read one of his slides.
More than 90% of Monsanto’s R&D dollars are spent on seeds and traits, with an emphasis on corn.
“This season’s strong results, even against the backdrop of the devastating drought we witnessed throughout the country, reinforce our ability to deliver on our commitments to our farmer customers, and we look forward to providing an even stronger toolkit of solutions in the future,” said Fraley in a statement.
