New Standard: Procedure For Measuring Point Trip Force & Maximum Trip Height Of Tillage Shank Assemblies
Proposed by the Association’s Tillage and Ground Engaging Equipment Product Council and just recently approved and adopted by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Power and Machinery Division, ASABE S591 provides manufacturers with (as titled) a Procedure for Measuring Point Trip Force and Maximum Trip Height of Tillage Shank Assemblies.
The purpose of this Standard is to establish a uniform method of measuring the static point trip force and trip height of agricultural tillage shank assemblies. This includes field cultivator or conditioner shanks, chisel plow shanks, and subsoiler (or ripper) shanks.
It is limited to those shank assemblies utilizing a spring cushion, or S tine/coil shank design. Rigid, non-flexing shank assemblies are excluded. Any specification published that is not in accordance with criteria of this Standard should be defined.
We would like to thank Carson Ward of Fisher-Barton Inc., who also serves on the Tillage and Ground Engaging Council, for all his hard work on this Standard.
ASABE is a professional and technical organization, of members worldwide, who are dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems. ASABE Standards are consensus documents developed and adopted by ASABE to meet standardization needs within the scope of the Society; principally agricultural field equipment, farmstead equipment, structures, soil and water resource management, turf and landscape equipment, forest engineering, food and process engineering, electric power applications, plant and animal environment, and waste management.
