Warning: Virus In Fraudulent Copyright Infringement Email
A fraudulent e-mail alleging a copyright infringement suit is still being circulated, and was recently brought to our attention by a long time member.
Although some details may have changed from an earlier version, the email is completely fraudulent and should be deleted immediately. The member received a fraudulent phishing email purporting to be from an attorney at a law firm, and “advising” the recipient that they have been sued for copyright infringement. Although the email contains numerous signs of being fraudulent, it appears just authentic enough to cause alarm for many of its recipients.
Worse, the email includes an attachment infected with a malicious “Trojan Horse” virus which we understand is successfully intercepted by many antivirus software programs.
