In Memoriam: Jim Harkness
Jim Harkness passed away on November 16 at Palmerston Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was a longtime member of the Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association and attended many of our spring and fall conventions.
Jim’s career began at the Royal Bank of Canada and Canada Packers before he purchased the family farm in Minto Township in 1969. This farm became home to his business ventures and his passion for agriculture.
In 1976, Jim started buying and reselling used agricultural and construction equipment. By 1977, he transitioned into the business full-time, founding Jim Harkness Equipment Ltd. Over the years, he expanded into both retail and wholesale operations, distributing farm equipment throughout Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada.
Jim stayed active in the business into his 88th year with his wife, Doreen, contributing until mid-September of this year.
