Soil Loss From Floods Could Have Been Worse
Brownfield reported that there’s no question soil loss and damage to conservation practices due to the recent Midwestern flooding was significant, but at the same time, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist Jane Hardisty said thankfully there were projects in place that limited the amount of damage.
“There are a lot of grass waterways, erosion structures, buffers, filter strips that did help hold back some of the soil,” said Hardisty. “I think we can be very proud of all the good conservation practices that did withstand the flood and was designed and installed properly.”
